Rape Culture

The rape culture in today’s society seems as if it has become the normal. Everywhere we look we see, and are being told that if we want something to go get it. When we listen to music and analyze the lyrics they are all about women and taking what you want. We see on TV how women are dressed, how they act, and how they are used as sex symbols. It almost doesn’t matter what you are watching on TV, reading in the news, or listing to on the radio, the image of sex is portrayed as if it is ok. When teens see that sex is ok and then on top of that they are told if they want something then they should go get it this causes more rapes to happen.

Who is to blame for the rape culture to be on the rise? I believe the media is to blame for all of this. The media can have the largest influence on the American people. When the media is full of all of the rape culture it fills the people with the idea that rape is ok. With the number of rapes rapidly increasing there is no other reason that it could happen. It is already proven that if people see their favorite actor or singer doing something they will follow in their footsteps. This is the case with the rape culture. People are seeing famous people doing all of these things so they are following then and there ideas.

ME

Heredity plays a big part in everyone’s life including mine. I get many traits from my parents such as hair color and eye color. Not everything I get from my parents is just my traits it’s also many of my acquired skill. Skills I got from my parents are this like knowing how to work on vehicles and how to how to repair random things around the house that need to be fixed.

I feel that birth order had affected me and how I act. Being a middle child I had to learn quickly to fend for myself often. I also had to learn to be a negotiator to try and get myself out of trouble when I did something wrong. I usually only got in trouble because I did not like to follow the authority of others such as my parents.

Parental characteristics or characteristics developed due to our parents also play a role in how I have turned out as a person. When I was born my parents were in there thirties, giving them time to figure things out with my older siblings. I grew up going to church every Sunday, as soon as I got old enough I got a job. I got the job so I could have some extra spending money. I used this money and bought my own car.

The cultural environment can affect everyone because it is what we are exposed to in everyday life.  This has taught me how to socialize and interact with certain people. It has also taught me this like traditions such as holidays to celebrate. It also has affected how we celebrate this like birthdays.

In all these are the things that have shaped me, and have affected the way that I have turned out. Whether it’s the people around us, the place you were born in your family, or the genes that have been given to us by our parents. You will escape these things that greatly influence you in your everyday life.

Birth Order

I do believe that the birth order of children affects their personalities. In my family I can see that the order we are born has affected the roles we have taken on. The oldest in my family is responsible, driven leadership material, and so on. These are characteristics of the oldest sibling and the roles they take on. Now in my family there are many middle children, we aren’t all the same but we all show rolls of the middle children. Some of us are peacemakers, creative, and all of us are independent, working on our own. According to frank Sulloway, “Within the family they are about as strong as gender differences.” In my family I see this to be true. I see that mainly the girls are the peacemakers, and the guys are the negotiators. As for the youngest in the family is can easily see how she is dependent, creative, and comical/entertaining. These are the things that I can easily see about the birth order in my family, if this is true for my families there are many more family’s this fits. I believe that this is true for mist families but may not apply to all family. This could be due to how the children are treated and raised.

Are People Afraid to Love

As a whole I do believe that society is afraid to love. There is an exception to this though, not everyone is afraid to love or to be loved. The reason people would be afraid to love is because, to love or to be loved it to open yourself up and you put yourself it a vulnerable state. Some people are willing to love and to be loved, they will take care of others when they are no longer able to take care of themselves. Many people would say they could take care of someone such as a family member when they get old, but when it actually comes down to it they couldn't do it. Does this mean we don't love? No it doesn't but, many people will find an excuse to get out of taking care of someone because they would see it as an inconvenience. Some people are able to love and be loved easier that others. this could be because of where they grew up or because of the way they were raised. If someone was raised being shown love everyday they would more likely love and accept love more openly.

Whats Next

As generations pass new sports are invented to keep people entertained. Right now MMA is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in the world. Before MMA sports like boxing and WWE were the big thing to watch and participate in. As we can see as time goes on sports seem to get more and more violent. Why are violent sports entertaining? Some say it is because of the thrill and adrenalin, but what is going to be the next big sport?
I believe that the next sport too come is going to be more violent then any previous sport we have ever seen. It could be something like the Hunger Games. So many people could be placed in a controlled environment and have a variety of weapons to choose from. In the sport the players wouldn't get killed but they will be hunted by the other competitors. The competitors could team up if they choose but in the end there can only be one winner. Players will be hunted by other player and will be forced to fight. There will be no referees to stop someone from being beaten but if you get beaten you are a loser in the competition. Players will wear bracelets or something of the sort, which monitors each players heart rates and also has a Taser attached. Although there will be cameras in every location the heart monitors will be there to help players that are losing and the player beating them will be shocked if they go to far in beating someone. This will help protect players from being killed. This sport would provide the thrill of fighting and hunting, and also adrenalin because you will never know who will be around any corner. A sport like this could soon be the next big thing all over the would.

Five Values

The value of being an American is going down hill fast. We are not as well liked as we once were. So how can we get back to being that good all American society? We need to get back some of our values that make you well liked.
Americans need to relearn respect. If we are unable to respect others then we will not be respected back. Without respect it causes unnecessary conflict. Honesty is another value we need. If you are not honest how are we ever going to be able to be trusted? Loyalty its a great value also. We need to learn to be loyal to our country. We are known for being the greatest country in the world, so we should be proud to be an American. We need to be selfless. We shouldn't be just thinking about ourselves, and how much money we can make. We should be thinking about the better good for everyone. Lastly we should have courage. Stand up for what you believe in. This is a country of the free, don't let that be taken away. If the country was to return to these values we could again be the greatest country in the would.

What I have Learned this Week

This week I have learned a few things. I learned that when my makeup slip is due for school, I should have all my homework done. I did not get my work done on time and now I will be taking a late grade. All of this has got me thinking, what is it like in the real world? Can we take late grades in our jobs we have deadlines for, no.
One of the reasons for school is to teach us responsibility for the real world after high school. Society to day is not like it was just 50 years ago. The men and women would say that we are lazy and don't work hard, but is this true? Everyday there is someone in school that has yet another late assignment. Is this really how we want to set our goals in the future with our jobs? I am not saying that all students have late assignments or are bad is school, but that there are those who struggle with getting their work done on time. The questions for those who are struggling is, what can we do to make ourselves better at this so we don't struggle in our jobs as well?

Can We Be 100% American?

Can we truly be a 100% American culture? With America having so many diverse cultures it is known as the melting pot. Everywhere you look you will see someone of a different ethnicity or cultural background, but will you ever see someone who is truly American? People of America probably never stop and think am I really an American?
The people of America have adapted to so many different cultures and don't even realize that they are doing it. If you look at the food you eat or the clothes you wear, where do they come from? Chances are that the pizza you may have had last night was resemblance of the same pizza made in Italy. The clothes you are dressed it right now where did they come from, probably Mexico, China, or Thailand.
Does the American culture have anything of its own to offer the world? If you really look at it no, we really don't. So if we have nothing to offer how can we be an true American culture? The answer is simple, no we cannot be a true American culture. This does not mean you cannot be an American. If the whole American population has adapted this mixed culture you can be apart of that. What it means to have an American culture is to accept, and live out the mixed and diverse culture that the country as a whole has also accepted. Even if the people accept the culture that we have adapted to you still will not have a 100% culture. This is due to the largely diverse ethicality though out the country.

The decision on who to keep was based on whether or not the skills they offered were valuable or not. If the people did not have skills that would help save others they were the ones who went over board. I do not believe that these values are because of the American culture. If this would have taken place on a ship from another country they would have done the same thing. The person left in charge is the person who will determine the values of the people. They will know best on what they need to keep the vessel a float.

Todays Kids vs. Yesterdays

The older teens now that have gone to school all there life have learned cursive writing, but most do not practice it at all. In fact the majority don't even know how to read it, or struggle with reading it. Cursive writing can be declared as an art, this art now is almost entirely held with the older generation. When they die off who will carry this art on? The younger generation now are lucky to even be taught this art. What needs to be done to save this almost lost art?
The people in education are talking about how the kids in this young generation are getting little to no teaching of cursive, and debating weather or not it needs to be saved. If you go and read old documents they are all in cursive writing. If something is not done soon there will be no one who will be able to read these documents. In my opinion the education system needs to be thought about a little more. Classes should be put into place to teach children to write cursive, and throughout there education make sure they remain able to read and write it.
The problem with the younger generation is not only with weather or not they can read and write cursive. the younger generation is losing contact with society at a rapid pace. The technology is  increasing at such a rapid pace that when something new comes out it is already outdated. With all of this happening the youngsters are always wanting the new best thing. And how are they getting it? Well for the most part there parents will buy it for them. If you are to walk down the street today and count all of the people wearing a wrist watch that number would be slim to none. Its hard to believe but some people don't even know what pointing to your wrist even means, and you have to ask for the time. Recently inventors thought of an idea. They are combining a phone or an iPod with the wrist watch. With all of the kids wanting the next new thing, this could be the next trend in technology. people will start to wear this and the wrist watch could come back.

Freaks and Geeks

In my Sociology class we recently watched a show called Freaks and Geeks. The show had many examples of the types of theory's we have learned about in class. In the show there was a guidance counselor, he is a good example of a Conflict theory. He would listen to the problems people are having then would tell them what to do to fix the problems that they were having. If they did not listen to him at certain times he would give them an ultimatum that would eventually lead them to listening to him.
An example of a functionalist theory would be the school and how it works. You have your popular kids who are the jocks and get the ok grades. You have the dropouts who don't do there homework and have bad grades. Also you have the nerds who get good grades and are picked on by all of the rest of the people.
In just the school setting you can easily find examples of these theories and there sources. If you were to look at the public and everything that is going on imagine how many examples of each theory you would be able to find. The number you come up with I believe would shock you.
